I cannot believe that Sophia and Ethan are teething already! It seems way too soon! Both of them have little bumps on their bottom gums where their two little bottom teeth are poking through. We're finding that Orajel is like magic. Numbs the whole mouth in seconds. Yesterday, Sophia was screaming in pain - about 2 seconds after I put the orajel on and she just collapsed and relaxed in my arms - amazing stuff!
I'm finally feeling better this week. About two weeks after the surgery I developed a stretched nerve that was pretty painful. I was on oxycodone up until this past Monday. The medication the surgeon gave me to relax the nerve is finally taking effect and I'm starting to feel like my old self again. I am looking forward to being able to go walking and getting out and about - hopefully I'll feel good enough to start doing that next week. I cannot wait to be more active and get my body back...
I haven't been alone with Ethan and Sophia since the surgery. My mom, Steve's mom, and my Aunt Jo-Ann have all been here on weekdays to help lift and care for Sophia and Ethan. While it's been nice to have people here helping, I am looking forward to getting back to it usually being just the three of us during the day. I like the pace of our days together and being free to hang out with them and play. I love being home with them. I really missed my big job at first (my ego missed my big job?) and didn't like the stigma of the job title "stay at home mom" (isn't that terribly vain? Ugh.), but I'm gradually getting over my big bad self. As time passes and I adjust to the new normal and self-identity, I'm finding that there's nothing I'd rather be doing and no place I'd rather be.
I took on a freelance project about a week ago - what possessed me to think I could handle 15 hours a week of freelance work as well as recovering from surgery and taking care of the kids?? I am an overcommitted idiot at the moment! I suppose it's a good learning process about my limits - until Ethan and Sophia are sleeping more consistently I really can't commit to more than 10 hours a week. That said, I enjoy exercising that side of my brain and we do need the extra income.
In addition to my mom, Steve's mom and my Aunt Jo-Ann we had a few visitors this week. Our friends Missy and Doug were doing an "East Coast Tour" and stopped by for a long visit on Saturday. It was so good to see them and catch up with them and the news about California folks. Peg Sloat came to help me with the babies on Monday. Wendy came with her 7 week old daughter Kate yesterday. I meant to take some pictures, but missed the photo ops!
We haven't been very good about taking pictures while I've been recovering - We'll get back to it this week. A few pics that we did take:
Aunt Jo-Ann plays with Ethan...
Peg Sloat feeds Ethan...
Sophia...
Ethan sports his plaid jacket - one of Gram's favorites!
Ethan observes his targets...
He carefully plans his attack...
"Got it!"
"Heh!" ... a proud Ethan celebrates!
On the much less impressive side of things, Ethan and Sophia sit in their bouncy seats watching the "First Moves" Baby Einstein DVD. This activity falls in the "whatever works" category - TV time gives me a half hour block of time to get dinner started each night and they do seem to love it!

Sophia coordinates both holding and putting a toy in her mouth!
Ethan Pepper can hold a toy and put it in his mouth, too!
