Welcome Summer!

Hanging out at Arlene and Josh's Memorial Day BBQ
Pictures of the future moms, Beck and Arlene, with Ethan and Sophia

Not only was yesterday the first official day of summer, today was the first day it really FELT like summer - it was a whopping 85 degrees here! Ethan seemed to enjoy the heat, while Sophia (like me) seemed to wish it was just a little cooler...

Sophia in her summer outfit and in her usual sleeping position...We tried to take a picture of Ethan in his summer outfit in his usual sleeping position, too. Our plans were thwarted by the fact he woke up about 2 minutes after we put him down. Giddy about the warm weather, he ate record amounts of squash and barley cereal for dinner and then proceeded to drink about 12 ounces of formula. We suspected, but didn't know for sure how much his stomach was bothering him until he spat up most of what he ate. Luckily, Steve was there to absorb most of it... Oh, the icky agony of it all!

6 Months Old! Happy Memorial Day!

Happy Memorial Day! We're heading out to a BBQ with friends soon. While the kids are napping I figured I'd catch up on blogging...

Ethan and Sophia had their 6 month check-up on Friday (they turned 6 months on the 15th) and both babies are growing fast! Sophia's body is catching up with her head, and both Sophia and Ethan have almost quadrupled their birth weights (most babies double theirs by 6 months).

Sophia - 17 pounds, 3 ounces - 27.25 inches tall
(Sophia jumped up to 75th percentile from 50th percentile at 4 months)

Ethan - 15 pounds, 12 ounces - 26.25 inches tall
(Ethan jumped up to 25th percentile from 10th percentile at 4 months)

Sophia and Ethan are not only starting to eat the yellow vegetables (squash is a big hit!), but they're also now having 3 solid-food meals a day in addition to their bottles. Yum! :)

Some six-month-old pictures...
No idea where Ethan's expression came from... but we thought it was pretty funny...

Exersaucers! Razzberries! Fun!

Ethan enjoys his exersaucer...
Figuring out how all the new toys work...

Sophia blows a razzberry and puts her stamp of approval on the exersaucer experience...
...Sophia is also holding her head up much better these days...
While we get out of the house almost every day now, we haven't taken a car seat shot recently - Ethan and Sophia are just about to grow out of their seats! Hard to remember when they were so small we needed to wedge them into their carseats with blankets!

Happy Mother's Day!

My first mother's day was wonderful! I knew that I would love being a mom, but I couldn't have ever imagined loving Sophia and Ethan with such intensity and complete joy. They are amazing little miracles and I feel so blessed to be their mom...

GramGram came to stay for the weekend. On Saturday we all (GramGram, Steve, Ethan, Sophia, and I) met up with our friend Rachel and her dog Riley and went for a walk in the woods. Saturday night after Ethan and Sophia went to sleep, my mom, Steve and I all watched a movie together - the first movie night since Ethan and Sophia were born!!!

Today was all about enjoying being together. We all went to church for Reverend Anita's sermon which was thought-provoking as usual. After church, we went to the May Day festival in Harvard Square. Then GramGram did a family photo shoot for us. Some of our favorites are below...

The moms...

Earlier this week...

Sophia, Ethan and I went for a long walk in our neighborhood and then had a picnic in the toddler park near our house with Carol and Sam.

Anniversaries...

A year ago today (5/5) we found out that I was pregnant. Two years ago tomorrow (5/6) Steve and I were married. Lots of joyful memories are packed into these two days...

Steve and I found out just as we were leaving to go to San Francisco - I had a business trip there and Steve took vacation time to come and celebrate our first anniversary. We had no idea that we'd be celebrating both our anniversary and my pregnancy! It would be another few weeks before we learned that I was carrying two babies.

Bubbles!

Ethan and Sophia today... 5.75 months old and doing so, so, so well! They gave us an early anniversary present and started sleeping through the night last Sunday. They go to sleep around 7pm and wake around 4am or 4:30am to eat. Then it's back to sleep until 7am or 8am! Steve and I are enjoying not only being more rested but also having some grown-up time in the evenings! :)

Some outtakes from the photo session!

Ethan's favorite pasttime these days is standing up. He needs just a little support, though. Sophia was a solid, but somewhat unwilling prop for him! We all need somebody to lean on?!
