11 Months Old :: First flu and ear infection...

While not without a few high points, it's been a rough couple of weeks. Ethan, Sophia, and I all came down with an achy, sniffley, yucky flu virus. Ethan was the only one of the three of us with a fever which lasted several days. After the first few days we went to the pediatrician who declared it a virus - we needed to wait it out. By the end of the week Ethan was still spiking a fever in the afternoons and early evenings, so we went back again. This time Ethan had a full-blown ear infection. Our pediatrician prescribed amoxicillin, and Steve and I were surprisingly delighted that it was the same "pink medicine" that we both so fondly remember from our own childhoods. Ethan started on the pink medicine this past Friday and while he's still a little cranky, he seems to be feeling somewhat better now. On the up side, we are so thankful that we've had almost 11 months of healthy babies! We're also thankful that Sophia and I were not as sick as Ethan.

The past few weeks have also had some good times. We had a great time going out to lunch with Grandpa Bernie. It was good to catch up, and Sophia and Ethan enjoyed playing with him.

Both Ethan and Sophia are exploring more and more. It is so much fun to watch them investigate together. They're also holding their own bottles now and their receptive language is just taking off. They understand simple sentences and this weekend we realized that Sophia actually knows what we mean when we say "tongue". Which will be absolutely no surprise to anyone who's been following our blog -- Sophia's tongue is featured prominently in many of her baby pictures...
